Lucy dog

I am Lucy dawg - Nilda Heyek
I am Lucy dawg

To my forever human:

Now that you have adopted me, it may be helpful to know more about me. One day I was found walking around the streets of Abilene Texas, and I was taken to the dog pound. I was very scared. I was lucky to have just been there a week when I caught the heart of my foster mom. My new foster family came that very day and took me home.

We were happy, but we all knew it was going to be temporary, I was with them for 6 weeks until I met you yesterday.

In the beginning, I ran away twice (my foster humans have a short fence in the yard and they didn’t know I am part kangaroo, so it was very easy for me to jump over it.) – I was scared and I didn’t know my way back, luckily they found me in the open field behind their home. I also ran out the garage door a couple of times (I am super agile and fast), but I only went to the neighbor’s front yard to sniff around and to say hi. I didn’t mean to get into trouble, I just needed to explore a little.

They would tie me to a loooooong leash so I could move around the yard and enjoy the sunshine without running away. I had fun doing this while hanging out with the kids outside.

I will go in the crate but I don’t like confined spaces, I will try to open it and this makes my nose bleed, which explains the scar on my nose.

I love to chew. Bones and bully sticks will keep me entertained for a while. – I can be very fast eating some of them. Once they got me a pig’s snout that lasted me one minute.

This toy lasted me about 10 minutes.
It was a fun one!

I do love fuzzy sleepers and comfy socks and I may try chewing on them as you walk (this may be a herding trait in my breed, I think I am a mutt.) – I will occasionally steal a shoe of a stuffed animal from the kid’s room, so give me a toy I can chew on instead.

A spray from a water bottle is all it takes to discourage me from being persistent. But please don’t spray me for no reason, my foster brother did this a few times and it is scary to me. – We are both learning.

I love looking out the window, I may growl at someone when they approach the front door (or when walking on the street) but as they come close, all I want is a hug and to say hi. When dogs bark at me, I bark back. I am a great guard dawg. My foster mom would discourage me from barking with the spray bottle (again) but it really worked.

What you do? I come too

I am not purfect, but I do my best and I am a good dawg. I am very curious and I love learning about the world, I am always ready to play. – If I seem restless and hyperactive, I most likely need some exercise, this will calm me right down. When walking, I can pull on a leash (I am very strong), but I am learning to walk with the gentle leader, although I don’t really like that thing around my nose and will take it off as soon as I can.

I will let you know when I need to go potty, (I do poop a lot), but I am very healthy and enjoy my food and treats. I am not afraid of the vet, I only remember being there once, and everyone was nice, (they trimmed my nails so I wouldn’t scratch my foster brother by accident.) I also love a nice warm shower.

I am very social and I love humans. I may jump on the bed or on the couch so I can sneak a cuddle, I will stay there if you let me, and I will keep you warm. Sometimes we can just sit together and that is fine. And yes, I will sleep in my own bed. – Occasionally I need a big, big hug, and I always want to go where you go. So, if I follow you around the house, it is because I love you.

Thank you again for adopting me. Please be patient with me while we get used to each other, I will LUV you unconditionally, it is my nature. I just want to be a part of the family and belong in my furever home.

With all my heart, Lucy dawg

Note: Lucy was taken back to the Animal shelter on January 20th 2022, to meet with her forever mom. She was adopted the same day.
