Magic woman

© Nilda Heyek - Magic Woman - nursing, baby love

As I lie down next to my 28-month-old, waiting for him to fall asleep. — It is the end of another day of constant calling “MOM”, “MOM”, “MOM”, finally quiet, finally still, yet holding onto me with his precious little hands…

I begin to think “wow, he came out of my body”, by a miracle of Life “he was created inside of me and grew from a single cell, into this adorable, demanding, strong-willed, loud little man, who relies on me day after day.”

Magic woman

Oh what an amazing thing motherhood is. Being a woman, “a magic woman” I am creating life inside my body. — What a privilege, what an experience!

Almost as if before meeting in this life, I had agreed to lend my physical body to this being, allowing him to take it over, from conception to birth, and all through nursing, however long that may be, for me it was 23 months.

I am still amazed that such a profound and transformative process can become a faded memory in my mind.

How could this be…? One day I witness my belly growing, then I am no longer able to perform simple tasks, such as tying my shoelaces or trimming my toenails, or I simply can no longer see my feet when standing up.

Then one day, he decides it is time, he is ready and he is coming, NOW! — Oh boy! — Yet, my body knows exactly what to do, and how to do it.

Magic woman, magic body

The next thing I know, I’m holding this tiny baby in my arms and I can finally lay on my back! — I was certain that such remarkable experiences will forever remain crystal clear. They are now simply a memory replaced by the daily: “MOM”, “MOM”, “MOM”.

Years from now, he will no longer want to hold onto me, he will need the space to expand his wings, – kind of like I need my space now.

I am reminded to cherish every precious hug… and enjoy holding his little hands, even if they are sticky… or him hanging onto my feet when I’m standing, even if this makes me almost fall… his cuddling against me when he’s falling asleep, even if there’s half of empty space in the bed next to him…

I am a magic woman, to experience the magic of my body giving Life to my baby boy.
